Rajya Sabha Election | Rajasthan CM Gehlot To Visit 90 MLAs In Udaipur Housed In Hotel Amid Fears Of Horse-Trading: Report

Rajasthan Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot was supposed to visit Udaipur on Saturday, but his trip was cancelled, news agency PTI reported.

New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot is expected to visit Udaipur on Sunday to see his party's MLAs and Independents who have been lodged at a hotel to shield them from horse-trading ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections on June 10. He was supposed to visit Udaipur on Saturday, but his trip was cancelled, news agency PTI reported.

"He is likely to go to Udaipur and meet the MLAs there on Sunday," a source was quoted by PTI in its report.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, who travelled to Udaipur with party candidate Pramod Tiwari and a few other MLAs on Friday, returned to Delhi that evening.

Around 90 MLAs are currently present in the hotel in Udaipur, including 11 of the 13 Independents.

The Congress has 108 MLAs in total, including six BSP members who united with the party. Only one of the six is present in Udaipur. Some of them have voiced dissatisfaction with the Congress and the administration and are confined to Jaipur.

The Congress has three candidates: Mukul Wasnik, Randeep Surjewala, and Pramod Tiwari, while the BJP has nominated former minister Ghanshyam Tiwari and supported media baron Chandra, who has filed an Independent nomination.

Congress leaders claim the backing of 126 MLAs, including 108 from their own party. To win three seats, a total of 123 votes are needed.

The election for four Rajya Sabha seats in Rajasthan will take place on June 10.
